Playstation One's Mission Impossible: Is it a Comedic Masterpiece for the PS1?
Full Video Article
Introduction
Video games, unless purposefully intended, are not often commended and remembered for their aspects of comedy or comedic genius. Yet, here at Cash Grab, we believe we have found the magnum opus of unintentionally hilarious games that bypass it's intended target audience and it's intended genre or gameplay aspect and simply become a comedic powerhouse!
This is where we reveal that the game in question is Mission Impossible for the PlayStation One. On many levels an unassuming title and certainly one that wouldn't strike you as a game that would hold a comedically memorable moment, or anything particularly memorable for that matter!
Yet, regardless of these initial doubts, we discovered that Mission Impossible was to be one of our most unforgettable games of all time and although our time with Mission Impossible was brief, it has been one of the most endearing and lasting comedic gaming experiences we have had, simply because of a few infamous words...
The (In)famous words...
Mission Impossible may present itself as quite a "bog-standard" game and, for many intents and purposes, it is. Yet, this doesn't mean that the game is without merit or interest. There are aspects of the presentation and gameplay that make it a fairly competent "Metal Gear-esque" game, though this was released before Metal Gear Solid for the PS1, a matter that we will gloss over for now... Aspects of stealth gameplay, utilising gadgetry and a very solid presentation make the opening of Mission Impossible for the PlayStation One quite an inviting one.
Yet, as the cover art above may suggest, you certainly should expect the impossible, as well as the unlikely and the deeply improbable for that matter, as none of us could have expected the particular scriptwriting train wreck that we were soon to experience within the first 20 minutes of the opening level of the game.

The incident in question was that of a conversation with a guard after being caught inside an enemy facility. The incident involves a somewhat pathetic excuse from our main protagonist, Ethan, explaining that his name is Fred and he's looking for his dog...
Ignoring the fact that "Fred" is dressed in state of the art covert military fatigues and carrying all sorts of deadly weaponry, the guard then questions why there would be a dog in the first place, seemingly with some confusion as to what the hell a dog actually is! This sudden jolt of canine suspicion sends the highly trained and lethally efficient Spetsnaz guard into a sudden realisation that he must call a guard, conveniently forgetting that he, himself, is a guard in the first place...
Not to fear though, as he gives us time to gently saunter over towards him and receive instructions from HQ to knock him out. Which we swiftly do after a brief staring competition with said Spetsnaz guard.
It is another time, one of many that we have experienced in our time at Cash Grab, where one particular incident can make a somewhat average game turn into both a fantastic and truly tragic game simultaneously! Fantastic due to the seemingly endless sense of hilarity that it appears to offer us. Tragic due to the poor game design and writing. A conundrum we face daily, yet the factor of hilarity always prevails as the dominant feature!

Mission Impossible for the PlayStation One is doubtless one of the most fantastical games we have ever had the pleasure of loading up and playing here at Cash Grab. By outclassing it's glaring flaws with a genius comedic undertone it not only achieved the unlikely, it achieved the impossible, in becoming one of Cash Grab's most endearing games. We call that mission accomplished!
